Description

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently updated their recommendations for an effective response to serious antibiotic resistant organisms and issued new guidance to SNFs March 20, 2024 (QSO-24-08-NH). This guidance aligns with nationally accepted standards and includes Enhanced Barrier Precautions (EBP), which focuses on the targeted use of gown and gloves during high-contact resident care activities for residents at highest risk for colonization or infection with resistant organisms. Resistant organisms can cause serious infections, are difficult to treat, and can spread rapidly throughout nursing homes contributing to substantial resident morbidity and mortality.

This webinar will review this new guidance, discuss best practices and review implementation challenges that have arisen since the April 1, 2024 effective date.

Objectives:

  • Discuss the impact and burden of MDROs in nursing homes.
  • Review policies, tools and best practices for implementing & sustaining enhanced barrier precautions.
  • Discuss recent challenges and obstacles providers have faced when implementing EBP.
